Firefox + OS X, Part II

Weeks later of using Firefox as my primary browser, I find myself largely satisfied by the experience. Google Reader performs well, and Firefox doesn’t ever get to the point where I’m constantly getting beach balls like I get with Safari after days (weeks?) of usage.

Some little things:

  • Safari does seem a little snappier. I don’t know if this is because I’ve had Firefox running for many days and I just started Safari and Safari will eventually degrade. I guess I’m getting more consistent performance with Firefox than Safari.
  • Similar to Zeldman’s recent article, fonts rendering is better in Safari. Every once in a while Firefox will render some words kinda funny. After I highlight them, they seem to be rerendered properly. The address bar always seems to be like this though.
  • Firefox doesn’t do in browser PDF viewing. Who thought I would miss that. I guess I really want to be able to preview the PDF before I go through the hassle of downloading it and opening it in another app.
  • The fake Aqua HTML form widgets are pretty .. “meh”.
