New toys
I got myself some new toys! (Oddly enough I seem to be doing more of that now that I am unemployed. I guess I have more time to play now).
Motoral T720
Oooh. It’s got color, polyphonic ringtones AND runs Java. Err.. BTW it’s a mobile phone. The polyphonic ringtones are hard to hear and the color display washes out in certain conditions, but overall I’m enjoying my ownership experience (yeah, that whole 3 or 4 days). Battery life is much improved over my old phone (Ericsson T28 World), which is amazing considering the color screen, etc (OK, granted it has a larger battery). Motorola has greatly improved their UI as well (I used to have a Nextel i85s), though they still have the Make Call/End Call buttons in opposite positions. The screen washes out in certain situations and is pretty much useless without the backlight, but damn is it nice otherwise. Plenty of lines, and plenty of screen real estate. Sound quality is also pretty good, and I feel it is also better than my T28, as is reception. One thing that is kinda disappointing is the lack of a call/answer button on the handsfree but it is a “standard” 2.5 plug. Overall.. thumbs up.
D-Link 802.11b+ Network
Yes.. “+”.. That means it’s faster than the normal 802.11b. It is suppose to peak at 22Mbps, but I think they’ve been taking lessons from the monitor folks (17 inch monitor, but only 15 inch viewable). Anyways.. I’m pretty happy with it. I can now watch TV AND surf the web at the same time. Making good use of my time. Initially I had some problems where after a little more than a day, it would drop off wireless world and require a restart. But it seems like it’s been behaving the last few days. Why did I go with the D-Link 802.11b+ setup? Because it was a Costco bundle. I’d been searching for a “Hot Deal” on some equipment, but couldn’t find any. Regardless, a week later it is now outdated and overpriced.
