New Laptop
It’s been some time since my last post. But life’s not all that exciting when you spend 8 hours a day working
I have, however, a new addition to my computing family. I recently purchased a Compaq X1000. My was a built to order machine so the specs don’t match up with what they show.
My specs are:
- CPU: Pentium M 1.3 GHz
- RAM: 768 MB (ordered with 256 MB)
- DVD/CD-RW
- Harddrive: 40 GB
- Bluetooth
- Centrino WiFi (which seems to have compatibility problems with everything)
- 15.4″ Widescreen LCD with a native resolution of 1680×1050
Those are pretty much the only specs that matter. I’m pretty happy with it. My only complaints are the keyboard isn’t as nice as an IBM laptop’s keyboard and I wish I could have gotten a TrackPoint eraser thingy as an option too. I also have a dead pixel, but it’s not really noticeable. Oh yeah.. and the stupid built in wireless doesn’t play nice with anything (at work or at home). I crossing my fingers for updated drivers. It’s a known problem for those with Centrino laptops.
Overall I’m very pleased with my purchase. It was quite expensive, but I think it was well worth it. It was bigger than I expected but not unreasonable. It’s a somewhere between the size of a 15″ PowerBook and a 17″ PowerBook (but thicker). And amazingly it runs at the same resolution as the Apple 20″ Cinema Display. There was an option for a higher resolution as well. I didn’t think my wallet or my eyes would have liked it too much.
Site News: I’ve added a “homepage“. I am actually using it as my homepage for my webbrowsers. It aggregates a couple of rss feeds from my friend’s blogs and a couple of news sides and it has a bunch of links on the side. I’m not quite done yet, but it’s useful now. The only problem I have with it, is that it is often really slow coming up. Especially when the rss caches have expired and the server has to query the other servers. I’m going to have to rework that and move the caching to a cron job. I’ve also added jpcache to a couple of my pages (the ones I think have higher traffic).

Nice res on the laptop.
I like your homepage. Now, where is the RSS feed for your blog so that I make a Tienshiao subscription on Livejournal.com?
