Holidays, Vegas, Fedora
Holidays: I hope everybody had a Merry Christmas. And I hope I everybody has a happy New Year as well. I got gifts, I gave gifts, and then I went to Vegas.
Vegas: I had fun in Vegas. I had a really nice hotel suite (at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay). I saw Mystere, Mamma Mia, and David Copperfield. They were all good (though I remembered David Copperfield to be better, but I was younger then). Traffic sucked from the 15 on (basically a good 2/3rds of the way). It snowed too (which was a bit scary). And Vegas was crowded. And I’d forgotten that everybody smokes everywhere. I had to pick up some Claritin. It was freaking cold. And dry. And my body is still sore from all that walking (and driving too).
Fedora: So I am rebuilding one of my home machines. I decided I’d throw Fedora on there and check it out. I installed it without incident. It installs just like RedHat 9. It looks just like RedHat 9. Seems to run OK for those few minutes I tinkered around with it. Oh yeah, it had issues with my sound card (SB Live!). Aside from that it looks very good, and professional. If it is anything like RedHat 9 I highly recommend it for newbies or somebody looking for a desktop that “just works”. I could probably give that to my mom and she’d be fine with it. And of course it’s got the pretty looking fonts all set up (no nasty virgin sacrifices necessary). Now I’m installing Gentoo back on it. Why? hrmm… I want to tinker around. And I don’t want to reinstall my system in another couple of months when there is another version of Fedora, and the older version stops receiving support.
