How to Steam Rice with a Tatung Steamer

Tatung Rice Steamer

Did you inherit a Tatung Steamer from your parents/aunt/uncle/other relative? Are you wondering how to make/steam rice with it? Did you try searching online? Didn’t find anything?

I had the same problem, until I realized I had inheritted a new one with a manual. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So here’s the relevant section (from a manual for the TAC-6G/6G(S) and 10G/10G(S)):

Directions

  • Use the measuring cup to measure the quantity of rice desired and put the rice into the inner pot. Clean the rice with water if necessary.
  • Then measure the quantity of water for the inner pot and cooker according to the table on page 8. (Err.. you don’t really need that. 2 cups of rice? fill up to line 2, and so on — at least in this manual which applies to the 6 and 10 cup versions)
    1. Water in the inner pot: There are water level lines graduated 2, 4, and 6 on the wall of ther inner pot, and the quantity of water shown by these lines includes the rice in the pot. So rice has to be put in first, then water.
    2. Water in the cooker: Measure the water with the measuring cup and pour it into the cooker.
  • Example: Six cups of rice:
    1. Put the six cups of rice into the inner pot, rinsing the rice if necessary.
    2. Pour water (called the mixing water) in, till it reaches the line marked “6″ on the inner pot.
    3. Pour the water (called the cooking water) - with cup, filled up to line “6″ marked on the inside of the cup - into the cooker and put theinner pot in the center of the cooker.
    4. Put the cover on the cooker, insert the plug in the socket, and push the switch lever down. The red light indicates the switch is on.

    Hi Karen,
