Amazon

I ordered a book from Amazon on the 7th. It is coming from Amazon. It was “In Stock”. And it is still “In Stock” and they have the little upsell saying “Want it delivered [tomorrow]? Order it in the next X hours and Y minutes, and choose One-Day Shipping …”

Why hasn’t mine shipped yet? Why is the shipping estimate one week from when I ordered it? Is Amazon’s supply chain so slow that it takes a week to get from the shelves to the loading docks? Unless you pay for that One-Day Shipping, I guess. Maybe they only process FREE Super Saver Shipping once a week and I just missed the cut off.

I think Amazon has peaked and is on its way down. They seemed so much more efficient years ago. Now you have stuff like this and most of the merchandise doesn’t even come from them anymore. I think the third parties have diluted the quality of the catalog (organization, descriptions, etc) as well as the quality of the service. It makes Amazon feel like an online swap meet.

My theory is that they intentionally delay free shipment items or at the very least prioritize them way down. Pay the cheapest shipping fee next time and I bet it ships the next morning.
