Firefox on OS X
I’ve always preferred Safari over Firefox on OS X for a couple of random reasons.
- Spellcheck!
- Aqua widgets
- Native GUI
- Scrolling feels a little different.
However, one thing that has always kind of annoyed me with Safari is Javascript performance. And beachballs. And since I find myself using Google Reader more, it is becoming more annoying.
So I figured with Firefox 2.0 being out (with spellcheck), I’d give it another shot. I grabbed G4 optimized builds of Firefox, grabbed the recommended add-ons, and now I’ve got a Safari-lookalike Firefox. Except slightly better in certain ways (location bar dropdown, Web Developer toolbar, and Firebug. And I guess Google Suggest).
The Aqua widgets are still kind of nasty, and the scrolling is a little different. I’ll try it out for a little bit longer and see if performance is a large enough difference to overcome the minor funkiness (not-quite Aqua widgets, not-quite native GUI). Maybe I’ll give Camino another go.
