Plastic Annoyance
One little annoyance of mine that has been bugging me more lately is how some plastics wear away and become smooth. And once they become smooth, they feel greasy. This most commonly happens with things you use with your hands. Like keyboards, mice, etc.
But the primary reason this is bugging me more lately is because I’ve been using my ThinkPad more lately. I took it with me to Shanghai because it was better suited for my work project than my PowerBook. Anyways, for whatever reason the plastic on the ThinkPad seems to wear relatively fast. My girlfriend’s ThinkPad keyboard was also well worn (before it was replaced for other reasons).
My PowerBook, on the other hand, seems to be minimally worn. The trackpad seems a little slicker, but that seems OK (actually I can’t tell if the middle of the trackpad is more worn or the edges have a little grime). In fact, I’m not I’ve seen a PowerBook with worn, slick keys. I took a quick (really quick) look on Flickr, and didn’t notice any either.
Clearly the plastic used for the PowerBook keyboards are more resilient than the ones used on the ThinkPad. Why can’t they all be like my PowerBook? Another reason I love my PowerBook. Hopefully the MacBooks and MacBook Pros are similarly resilient (though well used BlackBooks tend to look kinda greasy), because I’m thinking of upgrading when the CPU/chipset is revved. Maybe I’ll replace my ThinkPad keyboard in the mean time.
